Brilliant colors, effective and good for the environment: UTAX launches new main segment in the A4 color portfolio

A high resolution of up to 1,200 x 1,200 dpi and new toner technology ensure improved image stability and color brilliance in the print results of the new A4 color portfolio from UTAX. An innovative, wax-based toner allows a melting temperature that is ten degrees lower. Less heat also means less power consumption. The TEC values (Typical Energy Consumption) in accordance with Energy Star 3.0 have been reduced by up to over 30 percent compared to previous models. In order to reduce toner consumption and costs, the two TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) multifunctional systems 358ci and 458ci as well as the P458ci TCO printer have an automatic toner lock. This has the advantage that customers with all-in contracts can only change the toner when the cartridge is completely empty.

With the launch of the current DIN A4 series, the transformation to a uniform user interface across the main DIN A4 and DIN A3 segments at UTAX has been completed. All UTAX multifunctional systems have the same approx. 18 centimeter (7 inch) touch display, which is operated intuitively, similar to a tablet. "The argument that users can rely on the same operating features across different model types is particularly convincing for tenders and projects," says Philipp Wanner, Product Manager at UTAX. The updated touch panel is even clearer thanks to bright colors and clear icons. It has also been optimized in terms of accessibility. The adjustable display can now be tilted beyond the usual 45 degrees from zero to 90 degrees to an individually desired position. 

While HyPAS (Hybrid Platform for Advanced Solutions) was previously reserved for UTAX multifunctional systems, the new A4 color series is the first UTAX printer to feature the solution platform. The most powerful of the three new DIN A4 color printers with a speed of 45 pages per minute can thus - like all six new UTAX DIN A4 color multifunctional systems - be individually expanded with applications that make document processes more efficient. For example, with the "aQrate" output management software, with which sensitive documents are only printed after authentication on the system, or with a cloud connection to enable printing from different locations. The 4.3-inch touch panel, which can be tilted 90 degrees, helps to maintain a clear overview. 

With a more compact design, the new UTAX A4 color models meet current customer requirements when systems need to be placed on the desk, for example in the home office. Thanks to an optimized paper path inside the devices, the height has been reduced: by 45 millimetres to 575 millimetres for the multifunctional systems and by 14 millimetres to 395 millimetres for the printers. The latter now have the control panel on the front for the first time, so that it is more visible when used as a desktop printer and can also be operated from a seated position.

In terms of uniform functionality across the entire UTAX A4 colour MFP product range, all multifunctional systems of the new generation are equipped with fast dual scanners that digitize up to 120 image pages per minute. The slower reverse feed has been replaced by more powerful technology. The three multifunctional systems from a speed of 40 pages per minute (P-C4063i MFP, P-C4067i MFP, 458ci) have multi-feed detection for the first time in the UTAX A4 segment. An ultrasonic sensor registers when several pages are fed in at once and stops the scanning process. The same happens if the likewise integrated "dog-ear" detection reports an error. The aim of modern technology is to eliminate errors in the scanning process so that users can be sure that the entire document set has been digitized. Features such as the ID card copy function or document scan function make special scanning tasks more convenient. Anyone who scans and prints professionally wants to be able to access their data from anywhere. That's why the UTAX DIN A4 colour MFPs support new print services such as Microsoft Universal Print, which makes it possible to organize printouts via the cloud.

"In terms of security, the current UTAX A4 color generation has made a significant leap forward and is state of the art in this important area. This guarantees our customers the highest possible level of data security," says Philipp Wanner. More than ten security features have been added to the new series. These include the latest security protocols such as TLS 1.3 (Transport Layer Security) for secure data transmission in the network, the integrated Data Security Kit, which overwrites hard drives in accordance with international standards, the Secure Boot procedure and the Run-Time Integrity Check, which, in conjunction with the optional Trusted Platform Module (TPM), only allow authorized firmware, as well as the Simple Certificate Enrolment Protocol (SCEP), which automatically manages the renewal of certificates.

In response to demand in the higher-speed segment, UTAX has added an additional multifunctional system for high print volumes to its new A4 color MFP product series. The UTAX A4 color MFP 458ci in the 45 pages per minute speed range, which will be launched at the beginning of January 2024, is designed for high volumes in several respects. It features a longer toner runtime and has a larger working memory as standard for faster data processing. It is also equipped with a 550-sheet paper cassette as standard and can be expanded to up to four instead of three cassettes with a maximum capacity of 2,850 sheets. Experience has shown that higher paper volumes are required in tenders. Media processing has been further developed across the entire new product family. The standard cassette and the multi-bypass process formats from DIN A4 to DIN A6R with paper weights of up to 220 g/m² from up to three or four cassettes respectively. This means that thicker papers such as envelopes or labels and small formats such as recipes can also be handled.

Five of the six new UTAX A4 color multifunctional systems - the P-C3563i MFP, P-C3567i MFP, P-C4063i MFP, P-C4067i MFP and 358ci - as well as the three A4 color printers UTAX P-C3563DN, P-C4063DN and P458ci are now available from UTAX dealers. The UTAX A4 color MFP 458ci will follow in the course of January 2024. The new UTAX DIN A4 color family replaces the predecessors launched in 2018 (P-C3062i MFP, P-C3066i MFP, P-C3562i MFP, P-C3566i MFP, 357ci MFP and P-C3062DN, P-C3562 DN, P-C4072DN).
